locke laufeyson has always been used to getting what he wanted. the youngest of two sons, he was constantly overshadowed by his older brother. it was always clear to him that his father favored the oldest, however his mother was always doting over him. she made sure that her youngest son was well taken care of. he was always given the best clothes, the best education and the latest and greatest in gadget. his father was the ceo of norse industries, a military research company that focused on the safety of the american armed forces. there were expectations that came with being in such a prestigious family, locke had a certain standard that he had to follow. though his brother ( the clear favorite ) could do no wrong, locke faced a certain type of scrutiny that came with being the second son. he had to work harder to get his father to notice his accomplishments, pushing himself to the very edge of his capabilities and always exceeding them. his father noticed very few things, but the things that he did notice, locke made sure to do the best that he could.
locke worked for his father while he was in high school, filing paperwork, working the phones. a receptionist, while his brother was getting to do the things that his father wanted him to do to prep him to take over the company. pitting brother versus the brother whether intentionally or not caused locke to develop a distaste for his brother, the bond that they had when they were children became strained and their brotherhood significantly damaged.
after he graduated from high school, locke turned his attention to college, going to yale to attain his degrees in business, management and international affairs. he decided that once he was done with that, he wanted to attend school overseas. locke decided to travel to london, spending some time there to learn, get another degree, and further himself. locke was ambitious, looking for any way to get ahead as quickly as he could. after he came back to his family, his brother had decided he didn’t want the company, giving locke the opportunity to seize the moment and step into the shoes that his oaf of a brother would have filled. needless to say it wasn’t going to be easy for him, his father had carefully laid out plans that he would have to follow.
those plans included marrying a politician’s daughter and living in the limelight. the merging of the two families were supposed to strengthen both of them. at first, locke was against it, but the more that he talked to andrea, the more he realized that he was willing to open his heart up to it. he ended up loving her, yes, loving her, and the marriage went from just being arranged to being something he was looking forward to. she was killed in a car accident that devastated locke and broke his heart. their parents, though grieving, decided that they were still going through with the marriage. locke was instead going to be married to their other daughter, amelia.
the courtship was painful, and the marriage was dreadful. if anything, the forcing of the relationship turned his heart colder and forced him further into the shell he had created for himself. locke was arrogant, confident, and capable, his love life didn’t need to interfere with that. his father slowly began to let locke have more and more power over the company, until finally locke was able to force him down and gain the position of ceo. having adjusted some things in his marriage, locke has become a force to be reckoned with. norse industries has changed its path from defense to offense, because if there was anything that he learned, it’s that he who is most powerful comes out on top. with his wife by his side, who knows what else he can accomplish.
